Project Name:The Trager Family Jewish Community Center
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Size: 106,000 Square Feet
Description:
The Jewish Community Center of Louisville (JCC) holds a unique place within the region’s cultural heritage. It has been a beacon of assimilation for successive waves of Jewish immigrants to Louisville, home to countless Jewish families over the past one-hundred and twenty years, a place of unity and cohesion for Louisville Jewry, and a hub of inclusivity and understanding within the broader community. Inherent in the organization’s mission, vision, and core beliefs is a holistic commitment to the fundamental wellness of individuals and their communities; body, mind, and soul.
The JCC’s diverse programming reflects its tri-fold commitment to its member’s well-being. Summer camp, lecture series, theatrical performances, arts education, Torah study, fitness classes and basketball leagues, children’s education, and the celebration of Jewish culture through food and holidays. These activities are only a part of the programming that has contributed to the unique and vibrant culture of the J since its inception in 1890! The JCC is currently situated at its third location within Louisville and the community has made the commitment to grow in place on their current site. New facilities for the J will allow the community to grow and serve over the next sixty years.
The construction of this new facility brings to life significant improvements including an indoor lap pool, recreation pool, and hot tub, 37,000 SF of fitness, full basketball court, half basketball court, 12 class rooms, an indoor courtyard, multi-purpose meeting rooms and theater, a Kosher kitchen, and significant enhancements to the overall site. The 4-way light at Dutchman’s and Cannons will be signalized and there will be parking and green space throughout. The property is flanked with outdoor sports courts and a playground, and plenty of room for future expansion.
